Quadra

Affordable optical fruit sorting machine
Team Quadra

From tree to consumer, fruits go through several stages in the value chain: picking, sorting, and refrigeration before being sold locally or exported to customers across the globe.

Sorting is one of the crucial parts of this process as it determines the rightful price of each fruit once it is sorted by size, color, and quality.

For instance, a crate that would be worth $5 unsorted would triple in price after sorting. Sorting also provides better market access for traders and has become a basic necessity with the increasing international standards, which begs the question, why doesn’t everyone sort?

The available methods are either inefficient and expensive manual labor or sorting machines which are extremely expensive costing at least $250,000 for primitive machines and reaching millions of dollars.

As Quadra, they propose an affordable optical fruit sorting machine that will increase the capacity and quality of sorted produce to meet international standards.
